I purchased quotSir Gawain and the Green Knightquot Norton Critical Editions, largely for the annotations and critical essays the series is noted for. I havent had the time to begin it however, because I am under contract to write five reference titles for my publisher, and my leisure time is either spent here or updating my knowledge of particle physics. The latter has made me aware that I have lost my touch with calculating ClebschGordan coefficients, so i have pulled out the old textbooks and quotgotten medieval.quot And speaking of medieval, may I most heartily suggest Mary Carrutherss quotThe Book of Memory A Study of Memory in Medieval Culturequot Cambridge Studies in Medieval Literature, which I found engrossing. There are some excellent monographs on Chaucer I am eying, but the price puts me off perhaps after Ive completed my own books and the money begins rolling in again...
