Question
Would you rather be a SALMON or a GOLDFISH?
Answer
My father owns a goldfish tank at home. They really are, beautiful, shimmery creatures. They swim gracefully about, seemingly happy. No predators. Meals routinely assured....brbrBut to me, they are simply swimming in the wake of their own recurring slipstreams. Returning to the same spot, again and again all their lives. Their beauty is merely for display, a showcase. Nothing more.brbrAnd I would not choose a life in such suffocating idleness.brbrSalmons on the other hand are inherent adventurers. They embark on amazing life journeys, venturing hundreds of miles upstream against strong, cold currents. Returning to reproduce at the very same place they were themselves spawned. brbrThe goldfish is my metaphor for a life in a cage. The salmon, of freedom and purpose. I would, choose freedom and purpose.brbrEven if I were to be unfortunately caught for a fancy item in a restaurants menu. Even if the oils under my skin, my precious Omega, is to be encapsulated for the supplementary needs of geriatric old ladies.....brbrI would think of it as a life well lived, even for one so short. brbrAt least my capture and subsequent passing would be of a worthier purpose than to simply flip over a golden belly in putrid recycled water, and then only to rot away in some strange and utterly foreign metal dumpster...
